Western Alignment

The Western Alignment option involves construction of a new street meeting Laidlaw Road at 130th Avenue. This alignment requires a new bridge about 400 feet long and up to 50 feet high with an overall elevation drop of about 80 feet from the top of the hill to Laidlaw Road (height corrected April 28), which would span over a creek and a floodplain on THPRD-owned property where a natural/wetland area restoration is planned. The street will be designed for a 35 mph speed limit. The proposed design is shown with buffered bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the street.

The concept shows buffered on-street bike lanes and six-foot wide sidewalks on both sides of the street. Most of the street would have two motor vehicle lanes, but a center turn lane would be provided at the north and south ends of the project. The vehicle lanes and bike lanes would each be one foot wider than the Eastern Alignment option.

 

Eastern Alignment

The Eastern Alignment option would improve the existing alignment of Saltzman Road between Bayonne Lane and Laidlaw Road. The north end of this alignment is opposite Bannister Drive. The improved street will be designed for a 35 mph speed limit, which is reduced to 25 mph at the southern curve. The proposed design is shown with a multiuse (bike and pedestrian) path on the uphill (west) side of the street and bike lane and sidewalk on the downhill (east) side of the street. This option requires the replacement of an existing culvert about 200 feet south of Laidlaw Road.

The concept shows a 10-foot wide multiuse (bike and pedestrian) path on the uphill (west) side of the street and a buffered on-street bike lane and six-foot wide sidewalk on the downhill (east) side of the street. Most of the street would have two motor vehicle lanes, but a center turn lane would be provided at the north and south ends of the project. The vehicle lanes and bike lanes would each be one foot narrower than the Western Alignment option.
